I am a 34 year old South African which is a radiological transcriptionist for the past 8 years. I am currently working at my third radiological practice. I tried to get a certificate for MT in South Africa, but there is no university or institution where I can obtain it from. This is my only hope to further my studies in this field I was unfortunate in losing my father at a very you age and had to start working when I was 16. My mother at that time was a medical nurse devoted to her work, did not receive a good salary and had to work night shift to keep us going. It was not easy for her as she could not spend time with her three children. My true passion is medical typing but there is no way that I can get any further education in South Africa. My sister stays in Tampa Florida and would like to sponsor me and my family to go to America, but I have no qualification to show just experience. In South Africa we are not advanced enough for me to be a work from home medical transcriptionist for the practices I work for. I have to work 8 hours a day 5 days a week, thus is there not enough time to spend with my son and daughter. I believe in getting this diploma I would be able to get a good job on the internet as I have all the requirements to do so. I would like get this MT experience on the internet to start doing it at home and earn extra money to stay at home with my children and earn enough money and experience to immigrate to America to give my children the opportunity that was taken from me. My objective in the next 5 to 10 years is to have my own business in MT and help people that are in the same circumstances as me and give them the opportunity to better themselves. I know I have the drive and hunger for knowledge to better myself and be the best in my field. In the last week I just started at a new practice where we work on an internet based program. It is all new to me and make me want to experience it all. My experience in typing for more than 26 different doctors give me the confidence that I can do this course. We do type on the American dictionary and most of the terminology I do know. I am a fast leaner and take pride in what I do, but due to financial restraint I will not be able to afford you package at the moment as I have 2 children to look after. I hope sincerely that you will take me in consideration for this scholarship and I promise I will do my part to be the best I can be.

My brother died of cancer and we did not know he was sick until he got really ill. We could not tell what was really going on with him. I wanted to work in this field because I cannot take all the blood in nursing these days. I love my children and want a better life for them than what my parents could give me. Not that I am complaining or anything. But I like meeting new people because they are very interesting. Especially the elderly people. They have a few good stories for what has happened in the world the past 100 years. My family means a lot to me. My father died of congestive heart failure. That was a shock. Because my dad should have been able to see his grandchildren get grown. My mom is elderly. She is almost 73 years old. My family has a lot of genetic diseases in it. My kids and my husband mean the world to me. I worked in a retirement home for 2 years and I watched people come and go. It is sad that some of the people’s children just dump their parents off in these nursing homes and never come see them again. I could never do that to my parents. I had a few people that I truly enjoyed as my residents. They would make sure they got me a birthday card or whatever holiday was coming up they would get me a card. SN:1MA0N2ESY

No matter if people told them they could not they would still do it. It can be dangerous working in that kind of environment. With the residents being sick most of the time. because you can easily get staph infection or some other kind of disease. I love elderly people because I learn a lot from them. You know people now days they have it fortunate because the things people get away with I could have never done that when I was younger. Too many people had morals back then. Now days no they don’t have any. I do enjoy working with people I can talk to. I intend to make it where my children can go to any school they want to go to. People have to have an education now days. More college. I intend on starting my own medical transcription business. I like jobs typing work home.  Some key elements are that my husband and children are taking care of. Even if I have to support my husband the rest of his life. I believe that I can help other people in the medical field. I enjoy taking time with people and talking with them about life even though mine can be hectic sometimes. but I manage. My husband needs a little more help sometimes than others because he is ill sometimes. And I have to stop what I am doing to take care of him. All I want is to make life more comfortable for my family. If I don’t take care of them then who will. I love my family and I will do whatever it takes to take care of them.

I am very interested in becoming a medical transcriptionist. In the past three years my life has changed drastically! My fiancée and I lost our trucking business which was established in 1991, he started the business prior to meeting me. Prior to my meeting him I was a certified nursing assistant as well as an emergency medical technician. I loved my career however at the age of twenty six I was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease, around that same time I met my fiancée. Therefore as our relationship progressed I began to run the trucking business, things were going great! My fiancée has two beautiful children from his first marriage and now we have another child to add our family. Just as we seemed to be on top of the world my fiancée was driving home from working a fourteen hour day, and just as he was making a right hand turn into our driveway in our big rig a tour bus hit the cab of our rig totaling it. I want to go back into the medical field however the physical stress of being a EMT or CNA is not conducive of my disease. So I am redirecting my dreams, and as a medical transcriptionist I can be in the medical field as well as still being a mom. I really don’t want my children in daycare eight to ten hours a day and with the flexibility of working from home they don’t have to be. My family is used to me working from home my greatest desire is to still be there for them. My goals as a medical transcriptionist are to be able to buy a new house on a few acres so my children have room to run and play. Also I would love to have a medical transcriptionist business. Obviously I have business experience and I am not afraid of working hard to reach mine and my family’s goals. We currently live in a beautiful area with property, however we get eight feet of snow during the winter months and with three smaller children we need to be at a lower elevation. My fiancée just told me he wanted to move in the next year last night. So I have been trying to figure out ways to make all these things happen for our family. This option just seems like the logical solution to me. Not to toot my own horn but I think I would be great at medical transcription. Also I really would enjoy having my own business again. You don’t really appreciate things you have in your life until you lose it or in our case it gets ripped away from you. As I said before we were on top of the world and in an instant everything was taken away from us, I believe this will help me achieve happiness again for my family.

The economy has placed everyone in a bad situation. Unfortunately, the economy along with other problems has forced me into a poor financial situation. That is the reason I would like to become a Medical Transcriptionist. I am a self-employed woman trying to keep afloat in a business whose appointment volume has been cut in half since more consumers are pinching their pennies. In addition to that, my business is reliant on my equipment. Mostly, I rely upon a generator. That generator failed and could not be repaired. That closed the business down completely for 3 months while a new unit that would work for business specifications was found and financing obtained to purchase it.

This alone would have forced me to find another job to supplement my falling business income. However, new problems occurred. My sister, who was sharing a house and a mortgage payment with me, got married and moved out. Subsequently, she could not make her part of the mortgage payment and my house is now in foreclosure. I attempted to rent a room to supplement income and my cousin moved in. Unfortunately, he has been unable to make his rent payment most of the time and I have been supporting both of us.

Working in the Medical Transcription field has the main benefit of allowing me to work around my few appointments that I have with my business as I will be able to do this work from my home. Also, my sister is now pregnant and that will allow me to make myself available to babysit when she needs to leave for work. Also, as strange as it may seem, I have always enjoyed typing. That includes transcribing letters as someone dictates them to me. It was the part of my first job, at an insurance office, that I most enjoyed. It is almost impossible to find part-time home typist jobs with hours that would allow me to salvage my business that I have owned for 8 years. Since I found out that I was pregnant with my first child a lot has changed in my life. My job fired me for wanting to attend school, I was unable to find a job before I started showing, and once I started showing no company would hire me. Not just flexibility in the schedule but the location is a big plus for me. It seems as if my whole life I have been dreaming about becoming somebody. What I mean by this is I have always felt insecure about being JUST a stay at home mom. I use to watch a lot of my friends go off to work every day and they had children. It made me feel like I wasn’t as good. I have been a long time stay at home mom for over 22 years. I am fortunate that I was able to stay at home with my children, but I always felt I needed more. Now these feelings that I have had for so long about really feeling like a nobody and wanting to become a somebody in the career world are all about to change. In 2005 I had some significant changes in my life. I went through an ugly divorce that has left me a lot less financially dependent than I ever wanted to be or thought that I could ever be. It makes you realize how definitely, valuable some type of education skill is to have. Huge to me! Some of my educational/career goals that I would definitely like to accomplish is First: Finishing this course. Second: Working out of my home performing my skills I will learn.
