.) Do a a small amount of something for your organization everyday. Some movement to move yourself forward. Success in a online business is not a sprint, it’s a marathon, so make sure you are active everyday, unless you are taking some time off. Which you can do whenever! Shoot off an Email, call a contact, listen to a webinar or training call, study some personal development, or study new advertising methods.
.) Find someone else who has had success and follow them. Duplicate what they’ve done for success. Don’t re-do the wheel, just go behind the leader.
.) Build relationships with your business partners. Get to know them, their families, their jobs or careers if they are part-time in your company, and what their values are.
.) Turn your business off. I used to be in a business where I was always “on”. I was always making contacts, thinking about the business, and talking about the business. Date night with my spouse was business talk only…I was obsessed. GET REAL! Long term success means there is a equilibrium. Turn your business off and enjoy your family, friends, and hobbies like a normal person you crazy person!
.) Get involved with self help. You are never standing still in the same place, you are either developing and getting stronger in body, mind, spirit, or you are fading. So dedicate a little portion of everyday to reading something enriching and positive, saying positive affirmations, reading your goals, mediating to control stress, and focusing on a higher power. If you are not growing, your small business possiblyis not either.
.) Get involved in your neighborhood. Coach your childrens sports teams, volunteer at school, and donate some time at synagogue. Develop new relationships here that are not business related. Over the long term, these people will find out what you do, and some will go in with you and some will become big referral sources for you in the future.
.) Keep in communication with your business colleagues with seasonal Cards, b-day cards, and special, personal notes from time to time. People love to feel respected, and spending 15 minutes per quarter reaching out to people will show them that you are thoughtful, not just that you are all business out to make your bank account larger.
.) Go the extra mile. If something needs done, do it and do it correctly. No short-cuts. Hard work is vital for success. Get up early, stay up late, whatever you have to do, make it happen. The largest reason people fail in life is that they don’t work hard enough. Then when your work is done, PLAY HARD.
.) Set goals. They need to be S.M.A.R.T. Goals. This means S- Specific. Studies have been shown that a graduating class at Harvard were asked to set specific goals upon graduation. Only 3% set specific goals. 30 years later, those 3% had more net worth and accomplished more than the other 97% combined. M- Measurable. How will you be able to tell if you accomplished it or not? A- Achievable. Set big goals, but not ridiculous, pie in the sky goals. If you’ve made $60,000 per year over the past 10 years, don’t join a business and think that you’ll be a millionaire in the next year or two. R- Relevant. Can the goals you have set be met by what you do? T-Timeframe. Make sure each goal has a date of attainment attached to it. Work as hard as you can to make the goal happen, and if for some reason you don’t hit it, reset your goal, make some adjustments and go after it again.
.) Be-Do-Have. most people think once I have something then I’ll be able to do things and be different. NO! Be different up front. Be the leader you want others to be. Think success. Be the person who gets results. Do the things that it takes to get these results – the action. Then have the thinks that this leader has.
